OK things have happened since May, I've just forgotten to update the news.
ZCS 5.0.9 binary for Solaris 10 x86 and patchset for the core Zimbra tree (not ThirdParty) was released August 22.
ZCS 5.0.10 is in testing - this should support OpenSolaris as well as Solaris 10 and full patchsets will be released for ThirdParty and the ZCS tree.

Solaris TEST8 Build Released |
|

- SPARC build now available, in addition to x86 build. Solaris 10 packages should now include x86, x86_64, sparcv8, sparcv9.
- Basic zone support. Installs isolated and cleanly into full-root and sparse-root local zone for very lightweight virtualization.
- Basic SMF support. Service manifests with dependencies specified for parallel startup/shutdown. Zimbra milestone with service dependencies. Legacy init script still enabled by default, zimbra milestone disabled by default. To switch, remove legacy symlink from runlevel 3 (rm /etc/rc3.d/zimbra), and enable zimbra milestone with recursive switch (svcadm enable -r milestone/zimbra).
- Libraries fully runpath hinted, no ldconfig/crle/LD_LIBRARY_PATH hacks necessary. This should specify zimbra library priority and avoid any library clashes.
- Both x86 and SPARC builds fully 32-bit for maximum compatibility. 32-bit package installs and runs cleanly on both 32bit and 64bit OS, and should provide for maximum CPU/architecture compatibility, including sparcv8 CPUs. 64-bit jetty/java will be investigated for scalability for TEST9. This hasn't been tested on 32-bit so might not be completely accurate yet, x86_64 and sparcv9 have been tested.
- Full source code, patches and build instructions documented and released for first time.
- Upgrade from 4.5.4_i386.TEST2 - further work to support this. Currently the upgrade scripts all run to completion with few errors. Testing and further fixes will probably be necessary for full support.
- zimbra-proxy has not been built, tested or debugged. It will almost certainly not work at this point - do not enable it during install.
- Planned for TEST9:
- : zimbra-proxy support.
- : Proper 64bit support to components that would benefit, ie. jetty/java/mysql.
- : More complete zone integration - Live zone failover tested between separate physical machines with no interruption to Zimbra services. ZFS zone snapshots tested - extremely useful for fast roll-back of failed ugprades.
- : More complete SMF integration - test further parallelism, add refresh capabilities
- : FMA (self-healing) integration.
- : Sun Cluster support
- : Dtrace support for both developer and production usage.

Solaris TEST7 Build Released |

5.0.2_1982-TEST7 released. This fixes numerous installer/upgrade bugs - clearly I hadn't tested this on a clean system. Sorry about that, this one should work much better.
Update: Package removed, download TEST8 instead.
A few notes:
- - A new dependency package with installer script - this is installed before zimbra and automatically takes care of all necessary dependencies for you.
- - Amavisd children reduced to 4 from standard 10 - seems this build of the perl stuff is not very memory-efficient.
- - Increased java stack heap to 512k - standard 256k doesn't work well. Also mapped out threaddumps through platform conditional as this doesn't seem to work at all otherwise with the usual consequences.
- - Next release should have SMF integration. Self-healing will be looked at but initial investigation suggests it may conflict with internal zcs watchdogs.
- - Next release should be zone aware/compliant.
- - This release WILL NOT work with Solaris Express. Sorry, will look at that in the future.
- - If anyone could donate the use of a SPARC box for a couple of days would be much appreciated, I would love to get a SPARC build out.
Have fun! Please let me know how you get on, in particular any bugs/problems you have installing and running. |
