Welcome to varlogmessages

Welcome to the home of Zimbra Community Builds, a website dedicated to coordinating and publishing community builds of Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS).  The idea is to publish binary installers, source code patches and supporting documentation to run ZCS on platforms that are not officially supported.  This started off as home to the ZCS Solaris port, since then FreeBSD, Ubuntu 8.04LTS and PPC builds have also been produced.

This site does NOT have anything to do with the company Zimbra whatsoever.  None of the installers, patches or documentation from this site are from Zimbra.  Please do not expect any support from Zimbra other than in the Developers Forum.

Solaris Port

You have reached the home of the community port of Zimbra to Sun Solaris. Fusing of these two great software projects is a mouth watering prospect for many reasons.

  • Solaris is the most widely-used flavour of Unix of all time and has legendary stability in huge environments. It has been used extensively in critical areas of engineering, military, research and financial institutions, where uptime is mandatory.
  • Solaris 10 has built-in groundbreaking features that have dramatic possibilities for Zimbra in the enterprise - ZFS, Zones, Clustering, Dtrace etc.
  • In terms of scalability, Solaris has been 64-bit for many years and routinely powers 64 and 128 cpu servers without breaking a sweat. There are mature, established routes for redundancy and peripheral scalability, as well as a powerful native SAN stack.
  • Solaris is the spiritual home of Java, the main technology that Zimbra is based on. Sun also now owns MySQL, another major component of Zimbra.
  • Solaris is FREE!  Yes, you can run Solaris on a any number of  high power servers, using enterprise features like virtualization and clustering absolutely free.
